ROSH HASHANAH - JEWISH NEW YEAR
- Rosh Hashanah (literally 'head of the year') is Jewish New Year.
According to tradition, it's also the birthday of the world; the day the first humans were created.
The Rosh Hashana table typically features sweet foods to symbolise the hope that the year ahead will be a good and sweet one.
For example, Ashkenazi Jews (those of European origin) eat apple dipped in honey.
No recipe needed for that one!
Just slice up your favourite apples and either drizzle honey over them, or dip the apple slice into a pot of honey.
In contrast, the Iraqi Jewish custom is to eat apple jam.
