SHNITZEL - SCHNITZEL
A schnitzel is a thin slice of meatmost commonly chicken or veal that is pounded flat, coated in flour, egg, and breadcrumbs, and then fried until crisp.
Jewish or Israeli schnitzel is a crispy, thin breaded chicken or turkey cutlet adapted from the Austrian Wiener Schnitzel. European Jewish immigrants brought the recipe to Israel, replacing expensive veal with affordable poultry, often mixing sesame seeds into the breadcrumbs for a nutty local twist.
